Diermeier named IBM Professor

Daniel Diermeier, professor of managerial economics and decision sciences and professor of political science, has been named the IBM Professor of Regulation and Competitive Practices.

Diermeier is a specialist in the study of political institutions and their consequences for economic policy choice. He is also a leading scholar in the formal theory of legislatures. His specific research areas include game-theoretic models of politics, comparative political economy and institutions, legislative politics, non-market strategy, and philosophy of social sciences.

Diermeier’s work has been published in leading journals in political science as well as economics, including the American Economic Review, American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Economic Theory and The Quarterly Journal of Economics. Diermeier came to Northwestern in 1997 from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Since his arrival he has been the recipient of a major teaching award in every year, most recently the 2000 Best Teacher Award for the Kellogg-WHU International Executive MBA Program. He was also a runner-up for the 2000 Teacher of the Year Award.
