The Seeley G. Mudd Library for Science and Engineering
began renovations this summer that will help the library
accommodate growth in its collection for the next 10 years.
Throughout the summer the library had all of its old shelves
on the first floor removed and replaced with movable shelving
units. The new shelving increases the librarys shelf
space from about 7 miles to 10 miles. All journals dated
to 1997 are housed on the first floor. The second floor
contains current (unbound) journals and the Reference
collection. The third floor now contains all of the monographs
and all bound journals from 1998 to the present.
Seeley G. Mudd Library for Science
and Engineering contains about 248,000 books and bound
journal volumes covering every field of science and engineering.
Access to online reference and full-text information is
provided by the Morton M. Astrahan Electronic Information
Center, which includes networked public workstations,
printers, and laptop connections, and is the core of the
development of electronic access in SEL. (Photo
