This poster, entitled “1990, the
year of people’s action for a democratic South Africa,”
is part of a comprehensive collection of posters maintained
by the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies
at Northwestern. The posters were originally published
in Africa and elsewhere and provide a unique resource
to carry on research in a broad range of disciplines by
consulting the visual image created by governments, international
agencies, as well as political, labor, social, religious,
educational and cultural organizations. The Herskovits
Library has put online 77 posters, selected as a representative
sampling of the entire collection at www.library.northwestern.edu/africana/collections/posters/index.html.
Alongside each poster image is detailed information including
the artist, subject matter and sponsoring agency.
