June 2005 Music Calendar

In June, the Symphonic Band will pay tribute to retiring School of Music Professor Don Owens with a performance that includes his work (June 2). The Symphonic Orchestra closes out their season with pieces by Dmitri Shostakovich and Colin Matthews (June 3).

Events listed below will be held on Northwestern’s Evanston campus at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive.

JUNE 2005

Symphonic Band, 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. The Symphonic Band will offer a tribute to retiring School of Music Professor Don Owens. The program includes Owens’ “Variances on NU Songs,” John Corigliano’s “Gazebo Dances,” David Gillingham’s Concertino for Four Percussion and John Mackey’s “Redline Tango.” Ryan Nelson will conduct. Tickets are $6.50 for the general public; $4.50 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $3.50 for students.

Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 3, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. The Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra will perform Colin Matthews’ Horn Concerto, featuring horn player Gail Williams, and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 4 in C Minor. A 6:45 p.m. pre-concert discussion is free to ticket holders. Concert tickets are $8.50 for the general public; $7 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $4 for students.
