Growing up is never easy. Just ask Lilly, a vivacious young mouse. Playwright Kevin Kling has created this imaginative adaptation from the award-winning picture books of Kevin Henkes. Puppetry, music and plenty of surprises bring the colorful world of Lilly and her friends to life. Directed by Rives Collins, this performance is suitable for children of all ages, especially grades K through 4. The production also will tour Evanston schools from April 22 through May 27. Single tickets are $20 for the general public; $18 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for children and students.

“The Elephant Man,” 8 p.m. Friday, April 22; 8 p.m. Saturday, April 23; 2 p.m. Sunday, April 24; 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27; 8 p.m. Thursday, April 28; 8 p.m. Friday, April 29; 8 p.m. Saturday, April 30; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, Ethel M. Barber Theatre, 30 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus. Based on the true story of John Merrick, a horribly deformed man who lived in London in the late 19th century, this play follows his life after being abandoned by the traveling freak show in which he had been exhibited. Under the care of Dr. Frederick Treves, Merrick is given a permanent home in the Whitechapel Hospital. There, Treves educates him and introduces him to London society. Merrick’s journey is both heartbreaking and inspirational as he attempts to be accepted as an ordinary person. Single tickets are $20 for the general public; $18 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students.

Waa-Mu Show, “Waiting in the Wings,” 8 p.m. Friday, April 29; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, April 30; 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1; 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4; 8 p.m. Thursday, May 5; 8 p.m. Friday, May 6; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 7; and 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson Street, Evanston campus. The 2005 Waa-Mu Show, “Waiting in the Wings,” offers a unique, hilarious and often touching perspective into the creative process of young theatre artists. Directed by Dominic Missimi, the performance presents a rare backstage peek into the exciting world of live theatre. Single tickets are $27 (Tier 1) to $21 (Tier 2) for the general public; $17 (Tier 2 only) for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $11 (Tier 2 only) for children and students.
