Northwestern University’s theatre department will produce the regional premiere of playwright Wendy MacLeod’s four-character contemporary play “Juvenilia.” Set in a fictitious private, liberal arts school called Jubilee College, it is a coming-of-age play about college roommates Henry and Brodie, Brodie’s girlfriend Meredith, and their conservative Christian neighbor Angie. The comic drama about college-age narcissism and wry vengeance deals with subjects of universal relevance to young people -- casual sex, alcohol abuse and uncertainty about the future. Steppenwolf Theatre Artistic Associate and Northwestern University Associate Theatre Professor Anna D. Shapiro will direct the production. Single tickets are $20 for the general public; $18 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students.
“The Manuscript Found in Saragossa,” 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11; 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12; 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13; 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16; 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17; 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18; 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, Ethel M. Barber Theatre, 30 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus. This story of a young man’s journey of discovery is set in 1739, as Alphonse van Wordon travels through the treacherous Sierra Morena Mountains to accept a commission as an officer in the elite Walloon Guards. En route, he is diverted for 66 days and forced to live with gypsies, bandits, cabalists, a geographer, demons, a Wandering Jew and others who influence his worldview. Lookingglass Theatre Ensemble member Christine Dunford adapted Jan Potocki’s epic novel by the same name to create this play, determined to stay true to the book. Dunford will also direct the performance, using physical storytelling, circus arts and dance, typical characteristics of Lookingglass style. Single tickets are $25 for the general public; $22 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students.
