Chairman, CEO of UPS to Deliver Patterson Lecture
EVANSTON, Ill. --- UPS chairman and chief executive officer Michael
Eskew will discuss the challenges of international distribution in
an era of globalization when he delivers the 23rd William A. Patterson
Transportation Lecture at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Northwestern
University.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will take place
in the Owen L. Coon Forum of Leverone Hall, 2001 Sheridan Road, on
Northwestern’s Evanston campus.
In "Synchronizing the Global Economy,” Eskew will describe
the role of the transportation industry in helping to ease barriers
standing in the way of a seamless exchange of goods, information
and funds among trading partners around the world. He also will discuss
the economic, social and environmental implications of synchronized
global commerce.
Eskew began his career at UPS 32 years ago as an industrial engineering manager
in Indiana. A member of the President’s Export Council, he recently was
elected chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council.
Operating in more than 200 countries, UPS is positioned as a leading player in
shaping the global supply chain, handling nearly two percent of the world’s
gross domestic product on any given day. Known as “Brown” in its
advertisements, UPS operates hubs on four continents and boasted revenues of
more than $33 billion last year.
The Patterson Transportation Lecture was established in honor of the late William
A. Patterson, founder and CEO of United Airlines. The Center, which is celebrating
its golden anniversary this year, is an interdisciplinary education and research
institution serving industry, government and the public. For more information,
