2004-05 Segovia Classical Guitar Series Scheduled For Jan. 16 to May 7

EVANSTON, Ill. --- The Northwestern University 2004-05 Segovia Classical Guitar Series (Jan. 15 to May 7) brings some of the most highly regarded artists to the Evanston campus to showcase their versatile talents.

A five-concert series is $90 for the general public; $80 for Chicago Classical Guitar Society members, senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $38 for students. Single ticket prices and campus venues are listed below. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. on their respective dates.

Guitarist Eliot Fisk and flutist Paula Robison will kick off the Segovia series on Saturday, Jan. 15, at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive. Fisk and Robinson will perform works ranging from Haydn to Stephen Foster to Latin American selections. Tickets are $24 for the general public; $20 for seniors and Northwestern faculty members; and $10 for students.

French guitarist Jérémy Jouve makes his Chicago-area debut at Northwestern at Lutkin Hall, 700 University Place, on Saturday, Feb. 5. The 2003 Guitar Foundation of America competition winner is scheduled to perform pieces by Franceso da Milano, Isaac Albeniz, Joaquin Rodrigo, Dusan Bogdanovic and William Walton. Tickets are $16 for the general public; $13 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $5 for students.

On Tuesday, March 29, violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and duo guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad will perform at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. This unique violinist and guitar duo will perform original works, as well as Sergio Assad’s arrangements of Bach, Bartók and Ginastera pieces. A medley of music by Charlie Chaplin will also be played. Tickets are $30 for the general public; $24 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $10 for students.

Italian solo guitarist Oscar Ghiglia will perform in Lutkin Hall, on Sunday, April 17. Ghiglia returns to Northwestern for his 18th year of performing and teaching at the University. Included in his program is music by Bach, Rodrigo, Ponce and others. Tickets are $19 for the general public; $16 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $8 for students.

The final Segovia series concert will bring Finnish guitarist Timo Korhonen to Lutkin Hall on Saturday, May 7. Korhonen will perform the Chicago-area premiere of a Magnus Lindberg work “Mano-a-mano,” as well as compositions by Bach, Falla and Villa-Lobos. Tickets are $19 for the general public; $16 for senior citizens and Northwestern faculty and staff; and $8 for students.
