11th Annual Lurie Cancer Survivors' Walk Takes Place Sunday
CHICAGO --- Nearly 4,000 participants are expected to take part in The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University’s 11th annual Cancer Survivors’ Celebration and Walk from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, June 6.
Professional jump rope athlete David L. Fisher, known as “The Rope Warrior,” will perform, and Benny the Bull will make an appearance at the Cancer Walk.
The five-mile walk along Chicago’s lakefront is held annually on National Cancer Survivors’ Day. The walk honors survivors and all whose lives have been touched by cancer. It also recognizes the achievements of the Cancer Center’s physicians, scientists and health professionals whose work is inspired by cancer survivors.
The walk begins at the lakefront at Grant Park, southwest corner of Columbus and Balbo, and proceeds south along the lakefront to McCormick Place and back. Participants may walk any distance they choose.
Registration is $10 per person if you register on line at https://www.secure.cancer.northwestern.edu/walk/register.cfm. Registration on the day of the walk is $20 and begins at 7:30 a.m. The registration fee will cover the cost of lunch and a T-shirt, with special T-shirts for survivors.
The celebration begins at 8 a.m. Children in strollers are exempt from the registration fee. Pets are welcome. A dedication wall will be available for participants to sign to honor or memorialize friends or family members. For information, call (312) 908-0760.
