Pick-Staiger to Host Nagaokakyo Ensemble and Ryu Goto Debut
EVANSTON, Ill.
--- Japan’s prize-winning Nagaokakyo Chamber
Ensemble will present a concert featuring the Chicago-area debut
of violin prodigy Ryu Goto, younger brother of celebrated violinist
Midori.
The concert will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Pick-Staiger
Concert Hall, 50 Arts Circle Drive, Evanston campus.
The 12-member Nagaokakyo Chamber Ensemble was formed in 1997 by
violinist and teacher Yuko Mori. She serves as the music director
of the ensemble and will conduct the Sept. 28 concert.
The ensemble’s performance at the 44th Osaka International
Festival in 2002 was described as “one of the ultimate musical
experiences.” The group has received praise for concerts throughout
Japan and Europe including their performance earlier this year at
the international midwinter music festival La Folle Journee, in Nantes,
France.
During the upcoming Pick-Staiger performance, the ensemble will
perform music by Mendelssohn, Mozart and others.
Goto, 15, began
playing the violin at age three, and made his concert debut four
years later. He has since won numerous prestigious awards
and has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras around the
world. In January 2001, Goto performed an unprecedented series of
10 sold-out recitals at Casals Hall in Tokyo. Selections for his
Sept. 28 Chicago-area debut at Pick-Staiger include Brahms’ Violin
Sonata No. 3 in D Minor. Goto will be accompanied by pianist Evan
Solomon.
This concert
is part of a month of festivities celebrating 150 years of United
States-Japan relations, and is generously supported
by the Japan America Society of Chicago and Chicago’s Consulate
General of Japan.
Ticket prices are $21 for the general public; $17 for senior citizens
