The 17th annual Richard W. Leopold Lecture brought Pulitzer Prize winning author and Harvard professor Samantha Power to campus on Monday, November 13, 2006. During the lecture, Power spoke about collateral damage from United States involvement in Iraq, including damage to U.S. foreign policy initiatives elsewhere.

Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine is the recipient of a National Institutes of Health (NIH) $9.6 million dollar, 6 1/2-year contract to participate in the largest study of health and disease in Hispanic/Latino populations living in the United States.
Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) was on hand at a press conference to announce the contract and made a few brief remarks to those assembled.

Chicago Tribune reporter Paul Salopek recently returned home to the United States after being cleared of espionage charges in the Sudan that were releated to his work on a story for National Geographic. Salopek has extensively covered the conflict in Darfur and the Congo, and he shared his thoughts on the region with a recent symposium at the Northwestern University School of Law.

Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stigliz was on campus on Thursday, September 28, 2006 to address students and others in an lecture entitled, "Making Globalization Work." In addition to his Nobel Prize-winning work, Stiglitz was chair of President Clinton's Council of Economic Advisors in the 1990s. He currently is a professor of economics at Columbia University in New York City.
NU Political Scientist Discusses Constitution (MP3 48.2MB)
As part of legislation passed in 2005, institutions of higher learning that receive federal funding are required to make educational opportunities related to the U.S. Constitution available on or as close as possible to September 17 in celebration of Constitution Day. Kenneth Janda, professor emeritus of political science, delivered this year's Constitution Day Lecture at Northwestern.
