Alumni Corner Report as of May 5th, 2007 It's an exciting and important time to be a UCM alumnus! It's an exciting time because there are more of us than ever before. In the past five years I've seen UCM more than quadruple in its regular student participation. It's an important time because new sources of financial support are needed to maximize the potential of this rapid growth in student participation.Unfortunately, the total giving from local churches and the Presbyterian and United Methodist denominations has declined steadily in my four years as a board member. Alumni have the great opportunity to help fill part of that void. A small group of recent Northwestern graduates residing in Chicago-with input from alumni all over the world-have come up with a three part plan to get the ball rolling. Fundraising Goal In the next year, we hope to meet one or both of the following goals:
Last year 27 alumni donated a total of $3,305. In 2005 $1,725 was donated by less than 20 alumni. The 40 donors/$5,000 raised ratio is a possible goal!
We encourage your ideas for new ways to engage alumni beyond fundraising and informal communication. First, we envision UCM alumni serving as mentors for current students. Mentoring might mean as little as sharing your contact information or as much as meeting with a student regularly in Evanston to discuss personal or professional issues. We also hope to host a UCM alumni gathering during Homecoming Weekend in the fall of 2007.
A special Thanks to Jon Marino, Class of 2006 who worked on this report, and served as the UCM Alumni Board Member for 2006-2007. And a special welcome goes to Becca Hartman who will be UCM's Alumni Board Member for the 2007-2008 Academic Year. |
