Beyond Earth Week

Eco-RepsNorthwestern’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond a single week-long celebration, and there are opportunities for all members of the University community to get involved throughout the year. Here are just a few of the ways you can stay involved on campus and beyond.

Join a student organization

Student groups on campus reflect the wide range of issues facing those concerned with protecting the environment and promoting a more just and sustainable world. Whether you are interested in designing a solar car, planting an organic garden, restoring a prairie, or advocating for environmentally responsible investing, there is a student organization for you. Check out a list of organizations and find one that fits your interests here.

Green your office

Northwestern Green Office Certification helps faculty and staff make their workplaces more environmentally sustainable. Office of Sustainability staff members work with participating offices to help identify opportunities to conserve resources, save energy, and reduce waste. Groups that complete a checklist of green actions and commitments are recognized with Green Office Certification. View the details online or contact Stephanie Folk in the Office of Sustainability to get started with the process.

Take a class

Students can incorporate sustainability into their education with courses in a wide variety of disciplines. Explore course offerings through the Institute for Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern (ISEN), the Program in Environmental Sciences, the Program in Environmental Policy and Culture, the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, or the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
