Campus Sustainability Month

October is Campus Sustainability Month, and Northwestern is celebrating with a variety of events happening throughout the month. Here are some of the events taking place, including opportunities to get involved.

Bike Repair Station Workshop

Chicago Campus
New bike repair stations were recently installed on the Chicago campus. This workshop will provide an overview of how to use the stations to pump up bike tires and make minor fixes to keep your bike rolling along.

U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon

October 5 – 15
Denver, CO
The House by Northwestern team is in Colorado for this international competition. The decathlon challenges student teams to design and build full-sized solar powered houses. Follow along with the Northwestern team on Facebook.

Reunion 2017 Green Campus Tour

October 6, 4pm–5pm
Norris University Center
Returning alumni are invited to join the staff of sustainNU, Northwestern’s sustainability program, for a tour of environmentally friendly campus features. Learn about green features of the new Ryan Center for the Musical Arts and newly renovated Kresge Centennial Hall.

Green Cup

October 22-November 19 (tentative)
Students on the Evanston campus will compete in this month-long challenge to reduce energy and water use in campus residences. Prizes will be awarded in four categories: residences with food services, residences without food service, sororities, and fraternities.

EPA GameDay Challenge

October 28
Ryan Field, Evanston
The GameDay Challenge is a nationwide competition among universities to reduce waste and recycling during home football games. The sustainNU team and the Trash Tacklers will support these efforts during the October 28 game against Michigan State.
