China - Public Health Program Courses


**Students must enroll in all three courses listed below. Please note that there are no direct Northwestern course equivalencies for the below programs. Students must petition for credit upon their return. For more information, please contact the program director: international@northwestern.edu**

Public Health in China: (1 credit)
This seminar consists of a series of lectures, in English, by faculty at the Capital University of Medical Sciences in Beijing. Lectures will introduce students to the most common heath problems in China, the role of government, the organization of the health care system, and issues such an environmental health, addiction, violence, SARS and HIV/AIDS.

Traditional Chinese Medicine: (1 credit)

The School of Chinese Medicine is one of the affiliated institutes of the Capital University of Medicinal Sciences. Students will be able to learn about traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and herbal remedies and the role they play in today's China.

Language Training: (2 credits)
While there is no language prerequisite to participate in the China summer program, students are required to take intensive language training while in China. Three levels are offered, depending upon the student’s skill level. Tutorials in survival Chinese are offered during spring quarter, prior to departure, for beginners.
