Study Abroad Transcripts
Upon return, complete the following steps to ensure that your study abroad credit is transferred:
Have your study abroad transcript sent to the Study Abroad Office.
Make sure that your program sends an official copy of your study abroad transcript to the Northwestern Study Abroad Office (630 Dartmouth Place, Evanston, IL 60208-4195).
Wait patiently for the transcript to arrive. Usually, it takes foreign universities about two months to send the official document. If your credits have not been posted on CAESAR after two months, contact your study abroad program to see if they have sent the transcript.
-
Note for Barcelona Consortium fall returnees: It can take up to three months for the Consortium to receive official grades from UPF, UB, and UAB. Expect your study abroad transcripts to arrive at NU between March and April.
-
Note for King's College returnees: Please be aware that King's College has an examination board which must ratify grades before releasing transcripts. Due to this requirement, it may take 4 months or more for transcripts to arrive after your term abroad.
Get your credits transferred.
Once we receive your official transcript, we will make a copy for our files. We will forward the original to the Office of the Registrar only after you have submitted the required program evaluation.
Note: The Office of the Registrar processes a very large volume of study abroad transcripts as well as quarterly petitions to graduate. As a result, it may take several weeks to post study abroad credit. The Office will take graduation date into consideration when posting credit, so if you have not yet submitted your petition to graduate, you should do that immediately. Otherwise, transcripts will be processed in the order in which they were received.
Need a photocopy of your transcript?
If you would like a copy of your transcript (e.g., for credit transfer in your school), we would be happy to make one for you. Come by during our hours of operation and request one at the front desk.
Official transcripts
To obtain an official transcript, please contact the sponsoring institution of your study abroad program directly. Neither the Study Abroad Office nor the Office of the Registrar issues official transcripts from study abroad.
For non-Northwestern students who participated in summer programs run by the Buffett Center or the Center for Global Engagement, please contact Northwestern's Office of the Registrar (847-491-5234) to request an official study abroad transcript.
