Medill Students—
YOU CAN STUDY ABROAD!
- This year, approximately 25 percent of Medill juniors will participate in either an affiliated study
abroad program or a Teaching Media pilot program abroad.
- Most Medill students study abroad fall quarter junior year, but a full-year program is also an option
if you plan early.
- Medill students may apply for two pilot Teaching Media Abroad experiences—New Delhi, India,
offered Winter Quarter; and Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, offered Spring Quarter.
Courses required to participate include the Teaching Media prerequisites, as well as an intensive
special topics class on that country’s history, culture and media, offered the previous quarter. During
Teaching Media, students are placed in a newspaper, magazine or broadcast station in those cities.
- At the world-renowned Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), students proficient in
French can study abroad for a year and complete the Teaching Media quarter in Paris.
- Students applying to countries where French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, or Italian are spoken are
generally expected to have completed at least one year of the language at the college level before
studying abroad.
- With the exception of their journalism courses, Medill students can satisfy any other degree
requirements with courses taken abroad, including the 1-year language requirement.
- To discuss how to incorporate study abroad into your undergraduate curriculum, contact Keri Disch, the Undergraduate Registrar in Medill, at 847-491-4484.
