Northwestern Requirements for this program:
- Before you leave, you are required to meet with Professor Lynn Whitcomb, who teaches Arabic and spent time at AUC, to discuss your course choices and select a portion of your AUC courses from a list she will review with you. To schedule an appointment, email her at l-whitcomb@northwestern.edu.
- While abroad, you are required to take an Arabic language course or one regular course taught in Arabic.
AUC Program Requirements: Admission to the program is selective. Successful applicants must have completed 30 credit hours and most have higher than a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

| Program Description: |
Students enroll directly at American University in Cairo, an internationally accredited university with a large majority of Egyptian students, and have full access to the academic curriculum. Cairo, the capital and largest city in Egypt, offers a unique immersive urban experience. Students have the opportunity to travel with AUC-provided group trips and course field trips.

Students at AUC experience Egypt’s vibrant culture, diversity, and history and have a unique vantage point from which to learn about the inner workings of a strategically positioned country in the Middle East.

| Approximate Program Size: |
Each semester over 200 international students participate in AUC study abroad programs. This fall there were 389 students; last spring it was 283.

| Application Requirements for this Program: |
- All study abroad students must complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard. Call (847-467-6400) or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and net ID) to be registered for this quiz.
- After completing the 101 Quiz with a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application is not available online.
- Students must complete the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad by the specified deadline.
- In addition, AUC requires students to complete a Program Application, which is generally due April 1st for fall semester and October 1st for spring semester but consult AUC’s website for the most recent deadlines.
- This program requires all applicants to meet with Professor Lynn Whitcomb to discuss their course choices before applying. While abroad you must take an Arabic language course or one regular course taught in Arabic.
