Study Abroad in Germany: Term Options
- The German Department and the Study Abroad Office strongly encourage students to study abroad in Germany for the full year
- If students can only study abroad in Germany for one term, we encourage them to do so during the spring semester (winter-spring quarters at Northwestern) for two reasons: First, spring semester students are better prepared in terms of language since they go to Germany with more German language background (assuming they take German the fall quarter before they study abroad, which we also strongly recommend). Second, spring semester students can enroll in regular university courses in Germany.
- If winter-spring is not an option, we encourage students to study abroad on the Antioch-Tuebingen program during Northwestern's fall and winter quarters, so that they can enroll in integrated university courses (which run until late January/early February).
- Students for whom neither of these terms is an option may study abroad during Northwestern's fall quarter only on IES-Freiburg and IES Berlin.
