Northwestern Requirements

  • Before you leave, you are required to meet with Professor Lynn Whitcomb, who teaches Arabic and spent time at AUC, to discuss your course choices and select a portion of your AUC courses from a list she will review with you. E-mail Professor Whitcomb to schedule an appointment.
  • While abroad, you are required to take an Arabic language course or one regular course taught in Arabic.

Program Requirements

  • Successful applicants must have completed 30 credit hours.
  • GPA of at least 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).

Academic Specialties

Engineering, Arabic studies, Middle East Studies, Business, Law, and Political Science.

Course Type

AUC courses. As a direct enrollment program, students select courses from general AUC undergraduate listings and are not limited to a fixed set of courses.

Additional Information

Students at AUC experience Egypt's vibrant culture, diversity, and history and have a unique vantage point from which to learn about the inner workings of a strategically positioned country in the Middle East.

Program Costs

Fall 2009: $20,948

  • This includes the estimated cost of tuition, room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses and SAAF. The sample costs provided are for the fall term; for other terms and for the most current cost, contact the sponsoring organization.

Approximate Program Size

More than 200 international students participate each semester.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard. Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After recieving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. AUC program application, available on the AUC web site. It is generally due April 1st for fall semester and October 1st for spring semester, but consult AUC's web site for the most recent deadlines.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
