BU Madrid: Internship Program
Language Requirements
- Internship and courses from Level II of the Madrid Language and Liberal Arts Program: 2.5 years of college level Spanish, or equivalent (7 quarters, including Spanish 199-0)
- Internship and courses from Level III of the Madrid Language and Liberal Arts Program (Spring semester only): 3 years of college level Spanish, or equivalent
Northwestern Requirements
- If you have declared a Major or Minor in Spanish, or are thinking of doing so: if you are abroad during the Spring semester and opt for the Internship with Level III courses, allowing you to take classes at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), be aware that the Department of Spanish and Portuguese will accept petitions to receive major or minor credit for a regular course taken at UAM only if you have completed the entire course and taken the same final assessment as the Spanish students in the course, at the same time. Course options include advanced Spanish language and composition, Spanish literature, culture, history, film and politics, anthropology, archaeology, economics, sociology, psychology, and science.

Course Type
Along with the internship, students will either round out their course schedule with classes offered through Level II of the Madrid Language and Liberal Arts Program at the Instituto Internacional en España, or with courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (for Spring Semester only) through Level III of the Madrid Language and Liberal Arts Program.
Additional Information
- Excellent volunteer opportunities are available through Desarrollo y Asistencia.
- There are three to four excursions per semester to locations such as Granada, Toledo, Córdoba, Sevilla, and Segovia.
- Students receive tuition reimbursement for cultural events.
- Most of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid's facilities, including libraries, computer labs, and sports facilities, are situated on the 548-acre Cantoblanco Campus located 15km north of Madrid.
