Description:

This program combines advanced Spanish study with a unique opportunity to explore Spanish culture through the study of film and television.  It also offers students a rare chance to investigate some aspect of Spanish culture through the production of a documentary.  This class will be led by an accomplished Spanish documentary filmmaker and will entail in-depth observation and immersion into the culture.  The program is open to upperclassmen with an advanced level of Spanish language and a serious interest in both Spain and film production.

Language Requirements

2.5 years of college level Spanish (7 quarters, including Spanish 199-0), or equivalent.

Program Requirements

3.0 GPA (in major and overall).

Students will enroll in the following required courses:
  • Topics in Language and Culture
  • Spanish Film
  • Documentary Video Production
  • One elective course from those offered in the broader Madrid Language and Liveral Arts program

  • This includes the estimated cost of tuition, room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses, and SAAF.

Approximate Program Size

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard. Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After recieving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. Boston University program application, available on the Boston University web site.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
Note: Accepted students should start their visa process as early as possible.
