IES Abroad Amsterdam Direct Enrollment: Conservatorium van Amsterdam

Description:

Direct Enrollment program allowing students to enroll at the largest and most diverse conservatories in the Netherlands, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.  Students have the opportunity to take classes in the departments of Classical and Jazz that vary from performance and theory classes to ones focusing on specific instruments.  Students should be be strong Performance, Composition, or Theory majors with the motivation and intention to become professional musicians or music scholars.

  • Junior or Senior standing when program begins

Course Type

University courses in the departments of Classical and Jazz.  Students will also enroll in an IES Abroad Dutch Language and Culture course.

Additional Information

IES Abroad will organize a field trip to other areas of the Netherlands.

Housing

Co-ed apartments with other IES Abroad and/or international students.  Rooms may be single or shared, and each apartment has a shared kitchen and bath.  Local Resident Assistants live in some of the apartments.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard.  Call 847-467-6400 or email studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can puck up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office.  This application is not available online.  

Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:

  1. IES Abroad program application, available on the IES Abroad website.  All program application materials will be submitted to IES Abroad.  You do not need to apply directly to the Conservatory van Amsterdam.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
