Course Type

Germany is a leader in renewable energy systems, and it is innovating rapidly in the areas of climate change and geopolitics. This intensive program offers a thorough examination of wind, solar, geothermal and biomass processes as the German people adapt to rapid climatic changes, while also providing a historical and sociocultural framework for understanding these processes. The focus of the program will be on students’ own and their host country’s efforts in the field, and look at concrete examples of local action in Bonn.

Students in this program will enroll in a University of Bonn course titled "Energy Policy: Global Decisions, Local Actors." This course will also include a German history component to provide them with a better understanding of their host country and its background. Regular classroom work will be complimented with guest lectures from and visits to international and local agencies from the field of renewable energy, politics and research. Students will also be asked to put what they learned to use in a larger discussion, in a simulation, as well as in their final papers. All coursework will be conducted in English.
