Description:

Intensive language study, language and culture program and direct university enrollment. Emphasis is placed on pre-semester preparation, with a program including four to eight weeks of language training at a Goethe Institute, followed by a four-week intensive orientation program through the university's German Compact Program. Students then spend one semester or one full year enrolled in regular courses at Tübingen University. The Resident Advisors facilitate student independent research, internships, or part-time work.

Language Requirements

Applicants must have completed two years of undergraduate study and be in good academic standing with their home institution.

Additional Information

About Language Training at the Goethe Institute:

  • Students attending this program also spend 4-8 weeks studying intensive German language on a program in Germany run by the Goethe Institute before the start of the university term.
  • Credits for this program are posted to the Antioch transcript.
  • Fall-Winter Quarter students spend 4 weeks at the Institute in August, while Full Year students spend 8 weeks during July and August.
  • Fall-Winter Quarter students who wish to participate in the 8 week program instead will be subject to additional Antioch program fees as well as the NU Study Abroad Administrative Fee for Summer Session (if the additional courses are taken for credit). Fall Term 2009: $24,760

  • This includes the estimated cost of tuition, 4-week summer pre-session, room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses and SAAF. The sample costs provided are for the fall term; for other terms and for the most current cost, contact the sponsoring organization.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard.  Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. An Antioch program application, which can be found on the Antioch web site.
  2. The Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
