Northwestern Requirements
- Students must have 2 years+ or equivalent of college-level French and the ability to do coursework in French. All students will be required to meet with Prof. Margaret Sinclair in the Department of French and Italian in order to assess their language skills prior to application.
- The Northwestern Department of French and Italian recommends that students take at least one French 300-level course before departure.
- When choosing a world-class institution, careful academic counseling and planning is essential to successful integration into non-American settings. Work with the International Program Development office (847-467-6953), your college and departmental advisor to make issues such as credit, cultural adjustment and course selection work for you. A high degree of independence and initiative are also qualifications for an exchange program, which often offers less structure and on-site support than other types of programs.
Program Requirements
Students on this exchange program combine intensive coursework with research. A European scientific, technological and medical university, Unive rsité Louis Pasteur (ULP) is known for the quality and wide diversity of its courses, for the excellence of its research and for its dynamic policy of openness to its environment.Located on four major campuses in Strasbourg, ULP has more than 18,000 students, 1,400 teacher-cum-researchers, 1,700 engineers, technicians, workers and administrative staff distributed within 18 components (educational and research units, schools, engineering schools and institutes), 14 research federations consisting of 74 research units, 30 general services consisting of 13 central services and 17 common university and inter-university services. ULP is distinctive for its scientific contributions that place it among the top-ranking French and European universities. Strong and well-established collaborations and the interdisciplinary nature of its research reinforce this unique feature. ULP progresses by exploring new scientific fields through the interfacing of biology and chemistry with physics, medicine and computer science.

2009 Cost TBA- Full year students pay full Northwestern tuition. Semester students (six credits) pay Northwestern tuition equivalent to one semester (1.5 quarters).
- Students on aid will have their aid adjusted to reflect most, if not all, of these costs.
- Students participating in NU Exchange programs are exempt from the Study Abroad Administrative Fee.
Application Requirements
Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:- Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard. E-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and NetID) to register for this quiz.
- After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
- An IPD application AND a Universite Louis Pasteur application. Call International Program Development at 847-467-7834 or e-mail international@northwestern.edu to first set up a personal interview – as this is required as the first step towards application.
