Sweet Briar: Junior Year in France
Northwestern Requirements
- Students must have completed 2 years or the equivalent of college-level French and be of Junior year standing at the start of the program.
- Students must have at least a B average overall and in French. Candidates for the Spring semester must be particuarly well-prepared in French (with a 3.5 overall GPA) since they will arrive in the middle of the French university system's academic year.
- The Northwestern Department of French recommends that students take at least 2-3 200-level French courses at Northwestern before beginning program.
- Students must enroll in at least 5 units of credit per semester (inc. orientation). Northwestern grants general credit for the Sweet Briar Orientation Course.
- Students are required to take 2 regular courses at a French university. Northwestern encourages you to take more if you think you are up to the challenge. A “regular course” is defined as a course taught in the host language, for local university students (not study abroad students). This will allow you to experience what it is like to be a local university student.
- Students are required to live in homestays with French families (arranged by Sweet Briar College).
