Northwestern Requirements
- One year (or the equivalent) of college-level French.
- GPA of approximately 3.0.
- Northwestern applicants may only apply to the 8-week summer session.

The curriculum is a prescribed set of courses taken with other international students at the International Institute for Foreign Students, located on the University of Montpellier's Paul Valéry campus.Additional Information
Students may combine the summer semester with a fall or full year study abroad on the UMN-Montpellier Integrated Studies Program provided that they complete the necessary applications for both Northwestern and UMN prior to their departure.

Students attending this program will be billed directly by Northwestern for all program fees, including a Northwestern Study Abroad Administrative Fee of $750. See the UMN Montpellier web page for the most up to date information on program costs.
The total cost estimate includes tuition for 3 Northwestern credits, housing, most program activities, administrative and registration fees, orientations (pre-departure and on-site), and international health insurance. Please note that all costs are subject to change based on the fluctuating exchange rate and other international economic factors. This total fee mentioned above does NOT include transportation (airfare), passport and visa fees, texts and materials, most meals, and other daily living expenses. Announcing Summer 2009 Immersion Language Grants (ILG):
Immersion Language Grants support the intensive and experiential learning of foreign languages. During the summer of 2009, the Office of the Provost will award 10 Immersion Language Grants ($2,000 each) to help defray the costs of intensive language study, completed abroad or in the United States. Students interested in this study abroad program are eligible to apply for the grant:
- Applicants must write an essay statement describing how intensive language study will advance their overall undergraduate education.
- The ILG application deadline is January 30, 2009.

Students applying to the UMN-Montpellier summer program DO NOT need to take the 101 session on Blackboard, as is required of other study abroad students.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
- UMN program application, available on the UMN web site. Submit this application and the application fee (check made payable to UMN) to UMN by their published deadline.
- Northwestern Summer Study Abroad Application by March 4, 2009.
Students must also schedule an interview with Alicia Stanley, Associate Director of Study Abroad. Please call 847-467-6400 to schedule an interview.
Note: The Northwestern Summer Program deposit of $1000 due at the time of application does not apply for this program.
