Description:

Founded in the 10th century, Oxford University is the oldest English-speaking University in the world. While experiencing Oxford's unique tutorial system, you will be able to study in the sciences, social sciences or arts at one of four colleges: St. Anne's, St. Edmund's, Hertford College or Lady Margaret Hall. Each college has its own unique character that has been shaped by centuries of history and tradition. While the range of courses offered is broad, you are expected to focus on a couple of subjects in depth. Your studies will be driven by your intellectual interests and will require a significant amount of self-motivation and curiosity.

Northwestern Requirements

Northwestern students are required to live in University campus housing whenever possible. Therefore, Arcadia will place students in University housing if it is available.

Program Requirements

  • Students must have 3.6 GPA and a solid background in subject(s) they want to study.
  • Students must have strong writing samples and recommendations.

Additional Information

  • Students must have completed at least 5-6 courses in the subject they wish to study.
  • Oxford is very competitive, therefore students should indicate a second choice on their application.
  • Co-Curricular Learning Certificate: By participating in a minimum of 15 hours in a variety of learning activities and writing a reflective essay about your  experiences, you can receive a non-credit bearing certificate to accompany your official transcript.   • Honors Consortium: This program is designed for very ambitious, very high-achieving students who want to have the opportunity for self-directed research and individual study. Students participating in the program will go to London a few weeks before the start of the fall term and participate in a research methods course and other workshops. Once they arrive at Oxford, they will work on their individual research with a professor there who will be overseeing and guiding their work. At the end of the program, the students will participate in a capstone seminar back in London, where they will present their work.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard.  Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. An Arcadia program application must be completed as early as possible, by February 1st at the latest.  This application can be found on the Arcadia web site.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad must be completed by an early deadline of January 8, 2010.
