Description:

The DIS curriculum is subdivided into a number of programs, such as Public Health, Global Economics, Psychology, and Biomedicine. Students build their own curriculum from over 120 courses taught across a great spectrum of majors, but each through a Danish, Scandinavian or European lens. Interactive classrooms combine expert faculty, guest lectures and field studies to create an intense, experiential learning environment.

Language Requirements

No prerequisites, but Northwestern requires students to enroll in a Danish language course as part of the program.

Northwestern Requirements

Northwestern students are required to enroll in at least 15 credits per semester, even though DIS only requires 12 credits.

Important note regarding 1-credit courses: DIS offers 1-credit courses, however, 1-credit courses are not eligible for credit transfer to Northwestern. If you enroll in a 1-credit course, it would need to be in addition to the required 15 credits per semester.

Planned Excursions: The programs include two study tours: a three-day study tour in Denmark, Sweden, or Northern Germany, and a week-long study tour within Europe.

Housing

Students may choose one of the following housing options:

  • Danish host family
  • Kollegium (International/Danish student residence hall)
  • Folkehøjskole (similar to a small American boarding school, but with Danish students)
  • DIS Residential Community
  • An apartment with a Danish roommate

Application Requirements

Northwestern students must complete the following application materials for this program:
  1. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
  2. The DIS Prerequisite Form, which needs to be submitted with the Northwestern application.

Note: Northwestern is the admitting institution for the DIS program; students do not need to complete a seperate application through the DIS website.
