Description:

Collegium Hieronymi Pragensis (CHP) was established in the Czech Republic as a high-quality educational center specializing in European Studies.  CHP provides students from leading U.S. institutions with the opportunity to interact with Czech faculty and regularly offers ten to fifteen courses per semester in the humanities and social sciences at CHP's study center in central Prague.

Language Requirements

No prerequisites, but Northwestern requires students to enroll in a Czech language course throughout the duration of the program.

Northwestern Requirements

Students must enroll in 5 courses per semester, including the Core Course and a Czech Language course.

Program Requirements

Preference is given to students who have completed university coursework with European content.

Course Type

All courses, except Czech Language, are taught in English by professors from Charles University, the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Czech University of Economics.  Program participants attend classes at CHP's study center.

Additional Information

Two or three day-long field trips are organized to visit important historical sites outside of Prague.  Some classes offer field study excursions within Prague.

Application Requirements

Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. CHP program application, available on the CHP website.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
Note: Accepted students must apply for a visa months before the program start date. A valid passport is needed to apply for the visa.
