Description:

The CIEE Study Center in Khon Kaen helps students to understand the complexities concerning development and globalization issues, and the role students play as global citizens. Students learn about development and globalization from both an academic and a grassroots community level and its overall effects on a developing nation.

Additional Information

  • The program is based at Khon Kaen University, the major educational institution in Northeast Thailand, about 300 miles north of Bangkok.
  • Students can expect to spend much of their time traveling and staying in communities.
  • Program participants are paired with Khon Kaen University students for weekly one-on-one Thai language tutorials.

  • When not on community visits or home stays, students live in off-campus rental units with a Thai roommate.

Program Costs

Fall 2009: $18,535

  • This includes the estimated cost of tuition, room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses and SAAF. The sample costs provided are for the fall term; for other terms and for the most current costs, contact the sponsoring organization.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard.  Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. A CIEE program application, available on the CIEE web site.
  2. Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
