Program Requirements
- One year of college level Japanese or the equivalent.
- 3.0 GPA in Japanese language courses.
- While abroad, all students must enroll in an intensive Japanese language course.

- Students with advanced Japanese language skills can take area studies courses taught in Japanese.
- Students can take hands-on Japanese Studio Arts courses such as ikebana, calligraphy, woodblock printing and black ink painting.
- Volunteer opportunities are available.

Application Requirements
Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:- Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard. Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
- After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
- IES Abroad program application, available on the IES web site. *Please not the IES Abroad application deadline.
- Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
