Description:

Middlebury's China program is designed for the specific needs of high intermediate and advanced Chinese language students. The goal of the courses is to increase students' Chinese language competency in reading, writing, speaking and listening. All courses are taught in Chinese.

Program Requirements

  • Students must have two years or equivalent of college-level Chinese.
  • Students must have a B average in Chinese language and major courses
  • Students should be enrolled in a Chinese language course the term before they go abroad.

Course Type

One-on-one tutorials designed to help students reach a higher level of language competency through exploration of an in-depth topic of their choice; language drills; and electives focused on Chinese culture.

Additional Information

  • Qualified Full Year students may direct enroll at Zhejiang University of Technology for one course.
  • Credit-bearing and non-credit bearing internships are available.
Note: Spring Term without January term is not an option for NU students.

Program Costs

Fall 2009: $19,945

  • This includes the estimated cost of tuition, room, board, books, transportation, personal expenses and SAAF. The sample costs provided are for the fall term; for other terms and for the most current cost, contact the sponsoring organization.

Application Requirements

Prior to receiving an application, all Northwestern students must complete the following steps:
  1. Complete the mandatory Study Abroad 101 Quiz on Blackboard.  Call 847-467-6400 or e-mail studyabroad@northwestern.edu (include your name and netID) to register for this quiz.
  2. After receiving a score of 90% or above, students can pick up the Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad at the Study Abroad Office. This application it is not available online.
Northwestern students must complete two applications for this program:
  1. Middlebury program application, available on the Middlebury Web site.
  2. The Northwestern University Application for Permission to Study Abroad.
