SIT Senegal: National Identity & the Arts

Description:

Field-based, experiential learning in SIT program courses, with an independent study component. This program examines Senegal's important contribution to African arts and culture through a focus on the visual and performing arts. Students can participate in drumming, dance, and theatre classes and study the renowned creativity of Senegalese cinema, world music, and literature. Opportunities also abound to study the role of Islam in Senegalese life, contemporary development and poverty, and the history of the slave trade.

Northwestern Requirements

1.5 years or the equivalent of college-level French completing at least FR 121-2 OR FR 125-2.

Program Requirements

  • Average applicant has a GPA of 3.5.
  • Students must have completed at least one year of college-level coursework at time of application.
