Description: 

This competitive program gives students the opportunity to develop a deeper literacy about global communication trends, while analyzing and articulating the complexities of contemporary life in the Czech Republic.  All participants enroll in a Czech language course, a for-credit internship, and three elective courses either at the CIEE Center (program courses with other study abroad students), The Prague Film and Television School of the Academy of the Performing Arts (FAMU), and/or Charles University (however, see important note below about courses not being transferable if worth less than 2 semester credits).  Internships are available with local media organizations and firms, and CIEE offers a weekly guest lecture series featuring local artists, filmmakers, political figures, and philosophers discussing contemporary, issues, art, and media topics.

Courses worth less than 2 semester credits are not eligible to transfer back to Northwestern; refer to the Choosing Courses page for more information.

Admission Info:
To apply, Northwestern students must: 

  1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by the appropriate deadline
  2. Complete a CIEE application by the program's deadline

Language Requirements: 

Students must take a Czech language course on the program in order to fulfill Northwestern's study abroad language requirement.

Housing: 

Czech homestay, CIEE-administered residence hall or CIEE-administered apartments. Breakfast and dinner provided at homestays; residence halls and apartments are self-catered.
