Description: 

The Madrid Spanish and European Studies Program offers language and cultural immersion for students at all levels of Spanish proficiency. The program combines the study of Spanish language with courses focused on Spanish and European art, cinema, culture, history, literature, and politics, while giving students  the opportunity to experience life in a dynamic European city. Courses are taught in English and Spanish by Spanish and international faculty at the Instituto Internacional en España

Requirements: 

Spanish majors and minors must discuss their study abroad plans with a departmental adviser.

Academic Information:

  • The BU Madrid course, SHA HF 320: Food in Spain: Culinary History and Sociocultural Context, is not transferable to Northwestern because Northwestern does not have an undergraduate department of Hospitality Administration.

To apply, Northwestern students must: 

  1. Complete a Northwestern Study Abroad Application by the appropriate deadline
  2. Complete a BU application by the program's deadline

None; however, students are required to take a Spanish language class while on the program
