Istanbul: Bogazici University Summer Term

Northwestern's Istanbul Summer program is based at Boğaziçi University on the European side of the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul. The city, located at the crossroads between Asia and Europe, has always been a meeting point between East and West. Having hosted ancient Anatolian, Greek, Roman, Bysantine, and Ottoman civilizations, Istanbul today is the cultural center of the modern Turkish Republic and a vibrant, global city. During this seven-week program, Northwestern students take two English-taught courses alongside other international and Turkish students enrolled in Boğaziçi's Summer Term, selecting from a variety of course offerings in the social and natural sciences, humanities, engineering and technology.

To apply, Northwestern students must:
- Schedule an interview with the Study Abroad Adviser for Turkey before March 1st. Call the Study Abroad Office at 847-467-6400 to schedule.
- Complete an NU Study Abroad Application by March 1
- Complete a Boğaziçi University summer application by April 1
Boğaziçi University's Superdorm with single occupancy rooms but shared facilities (bathroom, kitchenette, common living room) with up to five people per suite. Laundry service is available for residents and periodical cleaning is offered by the dorm management. You will need to bring towels, bed linens and blankets or purchase a dorm package during check in. You may check in and out anytime between 9 am and 5 pm; late arrivals may be accommodated with prior notice.
The dorm is approximately a 10-15 minute walk from the main South Campus and 15-30 minutes from several major shopping centers (Akmerkez, Metrocity, Kanyon, and Levent Carsi).
All Summer Term students have access to Boğaziçi's social facilities and cultural activities, including tennis courts, an open swimming pool on the South Campus, an indoor swimming pool and a fully equipped fitness center on Hisar Campus, as well as a soccer field and running track on Ucaksavar Campus. You may access library resources with your Boğaziçi University Student Identity Card that will be provided by the Summer Term Office during the onsite orientation.
Summer 2015: $4,700
- The 2015 program fee includes: tuition, housing, group dinner, excursion within Istanbul, airport transport upon arrival, orientation, HTH Worldwide health insurance, and the Study Abroad Administrative Fee.
- Students should plan to budget an additional $3,300-$3,600 for round-trip airfare, in-country transportation, food, books, cell phone cards, and personal expenses.
Funding opportunities for this program: the Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies' Keyman Modern Turkish studies program will offer partial need-based scholarships to NU students. Awards are based on financial need, essay quality, and academic merit. Underrepresented minority students are encouraged to apply.
