About Northwestern Study Abroad

Some of the primary work that we do to help students in the study abroad process includes:

  • Evaluate and monitor programs.
  • Develop and implement a variety of educational programs, including:

    • The Study Abroad Fair,
    • Program-specific information sessions,
    • Pre-departure events,
    • Returnee roundtable discussions.
These programs are intended to provide students with the practical, educational, and emotional preparation that will help them do a number of things, such as:

    • Choose the study abroad program that best meets their educational needs,
    • Make the most of their time abroad, and
    • Continue to learn from and utilize their study abroad experiences once they return.
  • Work with Northwestern faculty and administrators to clarify and streamline study abroad materials and policies.
  • Provide informational materials on study abroad for students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Advise students on an individual basis.
  • Discuss study abroad and related issues with parents and guardians.
  • Maintain contact as needed with all students abroad.
  • Facilitate credit transfer once students return to campus.
