Update Your Student Status
Before departure, make sure your status with Northwestern offices is up-to-date and problem-free:
- Change your NetID password to ensure that it remains active the entire time you are abroad. (Passwords need to be changed every four months).
You can set a new NetID password online at the NUIT Set New NetID Password web page. Don't forget to write your password down so you don't forget it! - If you have a non-Northwestern e-mail account, forward all of your incoming mail to your Northwestern e-mail account.
You can do this on the NUIT Forwarding/Redirecting your E-mail web page. - Change your contact information to your permanent/billing address, so that offices on campus will send any important materials to your parents.
You can do this on the NUIT Edit Your Directory Information web page. - Pay any outstanding fees you may have from Student Accounts, Student Loans, or the library.
If you don't, there will be a hold placed on your registration and you won't be able to register for Northwestern courses from abroad. - Do not register yourself for NU courses for the term you will be abroad.
The Study Abroad Office will enroll you in a study abroad placeholder course so you can remain a full-time Northwestern student.
