Wildcat Excellence Awards

The Wildcat Excellence Awards is an annual event that recognizes and honors the outstanding achievements of our students, student organizations, and their advisors. The award categories recognize excellence in leadership, community and service in the Northwestern community.

Wildcat Excellence Awards Descriptions

The Rock: Distinguished Contribution Award

This award is given to senior undergraduate and graduate students who have displayed outstanding leadership through involvement at Northwestern University and have contributed significantly to the advancement of the campus community. They also display congruence in convictions and morals when leading and have an approach that empowers others, serving as a strong role model for his/her peers.

Contributing Student Leader Award

This award is given to upperclass students not currently holding an executive board position in a student, community, or work organization. This student demonstrates a tremendous contribution to the success and vitality of an organization, but does not hold a formal leadership role within the organization. This person could be considered an “unsung hero” within the organization.

The award will be awarded based on the student's:

  • extracurricular involvement at Northwestern
  • demonstrated awareness of beliefs, values, attitudes, and emotions
  • commitment to an organization, community group, or work environment

Emerging Leader Award

This award is given to first or second year students not currently holding an executive board position in a student, community, or work organization that demonstrates tremendous leadership potential on or off campus.

This award is based on the student's:

  • extracurricular involvement at Northwestern
  • demonstrated awareness of beliefs, values, attitudes, and emotions
  • commitment to an organization, community group, or work environment

Outstanding Innovative Collaboration

This award recognizes at least two groups who have built a meaningful partnership to develop a program or initiative that has positively impacted the Northwestern community. These groups have shown a commitment to relationship building by working collectively towards a common purpose.

Outstanding Community Service Event

This award is given to a student organization that conducted an outstanding one-time or on-going community service initiative on or off campus.

Outstanding Social Justice Initiative or Advocate

This award is given to a student or student organization that has committed themselves to bridging differences and creating a more engaged and inclusive campus community through meaningful programming and initiatives that facilitate full and equal access to an equitable and inclusive Northwestern experience.

Outstanding Theatrical or Performing Arts Production

This award is given to an undergraduate student organization that has produced an outstanding theatrical or performing arts production. This award recognizes a production that stands out for its artistic value and continues to build upon the great cultural character of Northwestern’s student performing arts scene.

Outstanding Graduate Student Organization

This award is given to a graduate or professional student organization that has demonstrated, through programming, a commitment to embracing and improving the Northwestern community.

Outstanding New Student Organization

The award is given to a new (existing no more than two years) student organization that has demonstrated outstanding potential toward contributing to the Northwestern community.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Organization

This award is given to an undergraduate student organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment to embracing and improving the Northwestern community.

Outstanding Advisor Award

This award is given to an advisor of a student organization who has demonstrated outstanding commitment in their role. The award recipient functions as an integral part of the organization, enthusiastically supporting the membership and mission of the organization. This award is available to both undergraduate and graduate organization advisors.

Outstanding Student Employee

This award is given to an undergraduate or graduate student who has demonstrated excellence in their work, personal conduct, and commitment by going above and beyond their position within Student Affairs. The student has demonstrated initiative, strong work ethic and dedication to their job.

Outstanding Sustainability Initiative

This award is given to a student organization that has demonstrated a commitment to reducing the group’s environmental footprint or otherwise promoting environmental sustainability on campus. Please note that this award is not just limited to sustainability programming or events. Organizations that are not focused specifically on sustainability are also eligible.

Outstanding Community Partnership

The award is given to an outstanding community partner to recognize support of Northwestern students involved in community service. The community partner could be an organization, school or civic group, or an individual from one of those entities, who has provided opportunities and guidance to Northwestern students as they participate in the community.
