Change is in the air. Change can be frightening, but it can also be a time to reinvent, create, and innovate. The keynote speaker will talk about how one manages change in a university setting.

How Hillel Has Changed to Serve Today's Emerging Adults

Presenters:
Rabbi Josh Feigelson, Rabbi, Fiedler Hillel
Andrea Jacobs, Director of Engagement, Fiedler Hillel
Cydney Topaz, Assistant Director, Fiedler Hillel

The arrival of the millennial generation has challenged traditional notions of identity among emerging adults. Jewish students, like all students today, come from a world of greater complexity than past generations. This poses particular challenges to Hillel: how does an organization that seeks to engage students in a dialogue with the enduring story of a people respond to students who do not share the views of past generations about the value of religion or ethnic particularism? In this session, the presenters will share their insights on engaging students and alumni in the process of self-authorship, community building, and healthy adult-identity formation.

Alison May, Assistant Director, Services for Students with Disabilities
Chris Walker, Web Content Administrator, Student Affairs

The presenters will present innovative technologies used by the Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) office. Specifically, SSD and Student Affairs Information Technology (SAIT) partnered to completely revamp the SSD website so that it incorporates the best practices for web accessibility. Part of why it was such a successful venture was that SSD, SAIT, and students served by SSD had a vested interest in creating a model that could be replicated throughout Student Affairs. At the same time, SSD continues to work one-on-one with its students to provide them adaptive equipment and software, which can, for example, enable students to dictate their papers to their computers. All of these technologies and more will be demonstrated along with other software utilized by SSD and its students.
