Back Pain

Back pain can be caused for numerous different events, some serious and others can be healed with rehabilitation. Pain can occur in the neck, mid-back, or low back.

Back pain that needs to be seen immediately:

  • A fall or slip
  • Radiating pain down leg(s) or arm(s)
  • Numbness or weakness in leg(s) or arm(s)
  • Debilitating pain
  • Fever

Care and Management

Depending on the cause of your pain, care and management will vary.  Until you see a physician there are a few things you can do to manage your pain.

  • Rest: Avoid placing more stress on your back. Minimize aggravating activity until assessed by a physician.
  • Ice: Use ice for pain relief.  You can apply ice for 10-20 minutes every hour.
