Background

Robert Brown is excited to join the Northwestern community as the Director of Social Justice Education. Rob is transitioning to NU from his last role serving as the Associate Director of the Multicultural Student Center (MSC) at the University of Wisconsin - Madison, where he led several curricular and co-curricular social justice education initiatives. Previously, he served as the Assistant Director of the MSC working to support the leadership and identity development of students of color. Prior to his work at UW, Robert held positions in residence life, fraternity & sorority life, student-athlete support services, and orientation.

Prior to starting his professional career at Washington University in St. Louis, Robert attended DePaul University in his hometown of Chicago, IL, where he earned his BS in Finance and Community Service Studies. Rob then received his MA in Student Affairs Administration at Michigan State University. Robert has presented regionally and nationally on topics related to social justice education, supporting students of color, assessment & evaluation, college men and masculinities, and civic engagement. Rob is an alumnus of the Social Justice Training Institute (SJTI), a past faculty and intern with SJTI, Lead facilitator with LeaderShape, and has held leadership roles in NASPA and ACPA.

He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and enjoys traveling, golfing, binge watching TV shows, cooking, watching sports, and spending time with friends around the city! Rob works diligently to bring his professional experiences, research interests, and passion for social justice to life through his work as a social justice educator always seeking to create space for community building, healing, and liberation.
