Title IX Coordinators

Northwestern has designated a Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators who oversee the University’s compliance with Title IX. Northwestern’s designated Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators oversee Northwestern’s compliance with Title IX, including coordinating the investigation of and response to sex discrimination complaints, responding to inquiries concerning Title IX, tracking incidents and trends involving sexual misconduct, coordinating equity in athletics compliance, publicizing Northwestern’s policies and providing training on preventing sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.

The Title IX Coordinator oversees the University’s response to reports involving sexual misconduct and sex discrimination, including the investigation and resolution of complaints and the provision of resources and protective measures. The Title IX Coordinator monitors complaints for patterns and systemic problems, disseminates data periodically to the community, and coordinates campus climate surveys on sexual misconduct.  The Title IX Coordinator develops and implements policies, procedures, practices, and resources that further compliance with Title IX and related laws. The Title IX Coordinator oversees development and delivery of prevention and awareness programs related to sexual misconduct and sex discrimination and ensures that all members of the school community are aware of the University’s policies and resources. The Title IX Coordinator leads the efforts of the Deputy Title IX Coordinators and staff in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Office.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students has primary responsibility for day-to-day management of sexual misconduct complaints involving students.  The Deputy Title IX Coordinator leads the resolution of sexual misconduct matters involving student respondents from receipt of reports to conclusion.  The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students conducts intake meetings with parties to sexual misconduct complaints; arranges for provision of protective measures for students; collaborates with Title IX Investigators on investigations; resolves Title IX-related complaints involving student respondents that do not involve possible separation from the University; and monitors complaint activity for patterns or systemic issues. The Deputy assists in the development and review of policies that further compliance with Title IX and related laws.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Sex Discrimination Complaints receives and resolves complaints alleging discrimination or harassment on the basis of sex, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, and parenting status against faculty, staff, and third parties. The Deputy assists in implementation of protective measures, takes actions to prevent retaliation, and monitors complaint activity to address any patterns or systemic issues in this area.  The Deputy provides community members with information on policies and procedures regarding discrimination or harassment, and oversees development and delivery of training and prevention materials for the community to combat discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, and parenting status. The Deputy assists in the development and review of policies that further compliance with Title IX and related laws.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics Compliance coordinates and implements gender equity initiatives in the Athletics Department to ensure compliance with Title IX as it relates to intercollegiate athletics.  The Deputy serves as the Athletics Department’s Title IX point of contact. The Deputy coordinates training and prevention measures on Title IX issues for the Athletics Department staff and student-athletes. The Deputy assists in the development and review of policies that further compliance with Title IX and related laws.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Global Safety and Security responds to complaints alleging sexual misconduct or gender-based harassment involving Northwestern faculty, staff, and students abroad. The Deputy provides community members abroad with information on resources and options and assists in implementation of protective measures. The Deputy takes actions to prevent retaliation and monitors complaint activity to address any patterns or systemic issues in this area.  The Deputy recommends and delivers training or prevention measures and provides students, faculty and staff traveling abroad with information on university resources, policies, and procedures regarding sexual misconduct and sex discrimination. The Deputy assists in the development and review of policies that further compliance with Title IX and related laws.

The Deputy Title IX Coordinator for NU-Q responds to complaints alleging sexual misconduct or gender-based harassment involving Northwestern faculty, staff, and students at the NU-Q campus in Doha, Qatar and works with the Title IX Coordinator in the investigation and resolution of such complaints. The Deputy provides NU-Q community members with information on resources and options and assists in implementation of protective measures. The Deputy takes actions to prevent retaliation and monitors complaint activity to address any patterns or systemic issues.  The Deputy collaborates with the Title IX Coordinator to develop and publicize policies, procedures, and resources for the NU-Q campus, and recommends training or prevention measures for the NU-Q campus.
