The Tutorial Process

Tutorials begin after the fifth week of the quarter so the students have a foundation in the topic of the course. Tutorials consist of the following elements:

  1. Ongoing discussion of the process by which a discovery was made in the laboratory and how it contributes to our understanding of the natural world and the betterment of society.
  2. A tour of the laboratory and associated research facility.
  3. A demonstration of the techniques used in performing and analyzing experiments.
  4. A chance to use the equipment, computers, etc. to obtain experience first hand the process of conducting an experiment.
