Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching
The Searle Center for Teaching Excellence is now the Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching.
In its 20+ years at Northwestern, the Searle Center has expanded considerably, both in sheer size and in the variety of activities in which it is engaged. Once a training provider for a select group of interested faculty, we now engage with a wide array of faculty, administrators, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduates; and engage in a robust and varied program of research into pressing questions of learning and teaching in higher education, with some 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and several books contributing to a national and international scholarly conversation.
While the new name is not vastly different, we feel it more fully reflects our mission within the university and within the academic community nationally and globally. No longer limited solely to promoting excellence in the practices of teaching, we are now also focused on enhancing learning through many diverse and innovative activities and on investigating how learning and teaching practices can be enriched.
