Luke Flores is the Director of the BioEXCEL program and the Coordinator for the NU Bioscientist program, both of which are part of the Northwestern University Ventures in Biological Education (nuVIBE) funded by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) . As Director of the BioEXCEL program, Luke oversees an intensive 5-week summer program designed to prepare incoming biology majors for success at Northwestern University. In addition to administrative duties for the program, he designs and teaches two courses, Biological Research Highlights and Leadership.

The NU Bioscientist program, modeled after the Science Research Workshop (SRW), has been established to foster a love of research in undergraduate students in STEM disciplines. As Coordinator, Luke helps students find research laboratories and develop individual research proposals. He also supervises student facilitators that work in small groups with participants. Luke also serves as Coordinator for the Science Research Workshop (SRW) program.

Luke has over a decade of experience working in research laboratories, earning a BS in Biology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and a PhD in Neuroscience from Northwestern University. His work has been published in the Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Neurophysiology, and Neuroscience Letters. While a graduate student at Northwestern, he began working with the Searle Center as a Teaching Assistant Fellow and a Teaching Consultant. He is now using his training in both research and teaching to help mentor undergraduates and help develop their talents.
