Bio
Bernhard Streitwieser was a staff member of the Searle Center from 2002-2010, where he served as an Associate Director coordinating research and evaluation for the Gateway Science Workshop Program (GSW), funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. He later served as a Senior Research Associate directing the Science Research Workshop Program (SRW) funded by the National Science Foundation, and was Principal Investigator of the Student Conceptions of International Experience Study, funded by the Buffett Center for International and Comparative Studies. Bernhard was also a Lecturer in the German Department and a Teaching Associate in the School of Education and Social Policy teaching on Comparative Higher Education and the Impact of Globalization.
In 2010 Bernhard moved to Berlin, Germany sponsored by a Fulbright senior research grant and a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) faculty grant to pursue a research project at the Comparative Education Centre of the Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin. Bernhard is now a guest professor at the Humboldt Universitaet and teaches ‘The Internationalization of Higher Education and International Education and Student Identity Development.
Before joining Northwestern, Bernhard was a German Chancellor Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and Education in Berlin, Germany and a Research Analyst at the American Institutes for Research in Washington, DC. Bernhard holds a Master's degree in Linguistics from Georgetown University and a PhD in comparative and international education from Columbia University. His research publications and conference presentations focus on comparative and international higher education, German education, and research methodology.
