You can Instruct Northwestern Search to search specific fields, for example only searcing page titles.

Search Page Titles

If you wanted to find pages with a word in the title, just add title: to the beggining of that word (no space after title:). For example, title:mathematics would find pages with mathematics in the title.

To search for more then one word in a title, for example Computer Science, you would need to prefix both words with title: (title:computer title:science) or surrond the terms in quotes (title:"computer science").

Find Pages Under Specific URLs

To search certain URLs, enter url: followed by a url as a term in your query (no space after url:). For example, if you are on the Graduate School home page and only want to search for sub pages you would enter url:www.northwestern.edu/graduate/ along with whatever term you're searching for. To find pages on Gradtuate School Admissions, you could try the following:

Search For Links

To find pages linking to other pages, enter link: followed by the url of the page it would be linking to (no space after link:). For example, to find out who is linking to the Mathematics Department site, you would enter link:www.math.northwestern.edu as your query.

Meta Tag Searches

To search for words in a meta tag, enter the name of the tag followed by a colon and the term you're looking for (no spaces). For example, if you were looking for the word "library" in the keywords meta tag, you would enter keywords:library as your query.
